I work with adults who are 18+ years of age, struggling with issues ranging from serious mental illnesses to life-stage challenges.
Mental Health Disorders: This specialty focuses on treating individuals with mental health disorders, such as Major Depression, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Panic Disorder, and Mood Disorders. I meet with individuals weekly and use a Psychodynamic framework to learn about symptoms and their impact on their lives. We work together to develop treatment strategies.
South Asian Orientation: I specialize in working with individuals of South Asian descent. I offer them a unique perspective from having lived in both India and the US. I am versed in the familial norms, gender roles/ expectations, and traditions of the sub-continent. I help clients develop coping strategies and establish healthy boundaries within the parameters of the South-Asian culture. I am fluent in Hindi and Bengali.
Trauma: Most of us have experienced at least one traumatic event in our lives. These events can happen to us as children or later in life. They can involve bodily harm, emotional abuse, or environmental factors. The impact of trauma can be immediate or long-term. The treatment of trauma involves providing a safe space for the client to share their feelings, learn about how trauma impacts the brain and body and learn healthy/adaptive coping strategies.
Adjustment/Life-Stage Issues: Adulthood is full of important milestones and unexpected challenges, all of which can cause significant stress and require adjustment. These issues include marital and relationship problems, parenting challenges, professional and academic problems, etc. We work together to explore the roots of ongoing issues and implement coping strategies.
